NEXT MEETING – THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2008

7:30 p.m. – AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH!

Personally I have not been fishing lately.  However, I hear fishing for Crappie and Mud Shad has been pretty good.  Most of the Crappie are small but there have been some large fish caught. There are Yellow Perch being caught in some streams. Also I have read of some fishing records being set in the Mid-Atlantic area. A White Crappie record was set in North Carolina of 1 pound 13ounces and 15 ½ inches long. A  large Rockfish of 73 pounds has set a new Virginia record.  An 11 pound 13 ounce Large Mouth Bass has set the new Maryland record. There are fish to be caught. We just have to get off our butts and go fishing.

DORCHESTER COUNTY FLEA MARKET

Saturday, February 23rd is our Club’s flea market. This is our largest event and our main support of our fishing Club.  We need everyone’s support. We had sold all our tables to vendors before the end of January.  We really have a good variety of vendors this year. There should be some great bargains on fishing, hunting and boating. Now that we have all of the vendors, we now need the attendance.  So  please attend and pass the word about our flea market. The attendance has been very good at our flea market but we can do better. This should be the biggest show we have ever had.

Don’t forget to donate some items for our Club’s table. You have supported this table very well through the years.  Everyone has things that they haven’t used, so bring them in and let us sell them at our flea market.  If you have items to give us and can’t make the meeting, I will gladly come and get them.

Try to bring your items to our February 21st meeting for that is only two days before our flea market.  Or bring them to the flea market. We really need your support.

I, again this year, will have a table so you can renew your membership or get a friend to join.  We have some great give-aways this year. There will be the show special with five chances to win $1,000.00.  There will be with your signup, either renew or new, a chance to win a fishing trip for six people out of Chesapeake Beach. Also the MSSA will give away $250.00 every six months to members of the MSSA. So if your membership has run out, running out or needs to renew in a few months, now is the time to do it at the flea market.

Members, we really need your support of this flea market!

RAFFLES

Again this year we will have a raffle to win a fishing combo of your choice. A spinning outfit, a level wind unit or a trolling rod and reel.  Your choice if you win. We will start selling the tickets at our meeting. Again this year, I’m asking each member to buy $5.00 worth of chances and try to sell as many chances as you can. Again, we need your support.

Also at the flea market, we will raffle a Lowrance Eagle X71 Sonar Fish Finder – Depth Sounder donated by Mid-Short Electronics. This unit will be given away at the end of the flea market.

GUEST SPEAKER

Our speaker this month is Jim Uphoff, who is with DNR.  Jim is in the Estuarine Fisheries Division and is their Weakfish specialist.  Jim will talk on the food chain in the Chesapeake Bay and how it affects our fishing. Also, he can answer most questions on the different fish we catch in the Chesapeake Bay area.

Don’t miss this meeting to cover the flea market, to hear Jim Uphoff and I will update you on M.A.R.I. and the fishing reefs.

See you at the meeting or on the water.

Clint
