The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.
NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH!
I want to wish every member a very happy new fishing year. May 2008 be better than 2007 as far as fishing goes and our health. We got our first Club fishing trip for 2008 under our belts. Bob Giesler, our new Club fishing trip organizer, put a fishing trip together on January 6th out of Ocean City on the Ocean Princess for Tog fish (Blackfish). The weather was fair, mid-fifty’s, winds were light. Most Club members caught their limit, a few didn’t; however everyone went home with fish. I was surprised at the size of the Tog fish. A lot were in the 8 to 10 pound range with the largest at 14 pounds. That’s a big Tog! 2008 is just getting started and as a member you need to get involved with these Club fishing trips. They will be planned all year.
DORCHESTER COUNTY FLEA MARKETFEBRUARY 23, 2008 THE BIGGEST ONE-DAY SHOW ON THE SHOREOur annual flea market is scheduled for February 23, 2008, at the American Legion in Cambridge. This event has become a state-wide attraction with vendors from a four state area. There are some great bargains for fishing, hunting and boating. It’s a great way to stock up your equipment for 2008 and save money. Please support the flea market. It is our biggest fund raiser for our Fishing Club. Please donate items for our Club’s table at the flea market. I know every member has equipment left over that was never used and equipment that can be donated for our table. Remember, if you haven’t used a piece of equipment in a year and it has been just moved around, most likely you will not use it. So donate it. We need your help and support. Get your donated stuff together and bring it to the February meeting which is two days before the flea market.
Members who get this newsletter by mail will have a flyer with it. Take this flyer to a place in your area that will help support our flea market. Members who get the newsletter by email will have a page two attachment to the newsletter and that will be the flea market flyer. Print out this flyer and post it in your area. That will help bring people to the flea market.
Renew your membership at the flea market. Check your expiration date on your membership card and mailing label. If it has expired or due to run out in a few months, the flea market is a great place to renew or bring in a new member. We will have the show special again, plus you may win a fishing trip out of Chesapeake Beach for six people. Start planning for the flea market. We need your support.
TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED
At our January meeting please try to attend, so we can vote together on events that are planned for 2008 or improve what events we have or suggest new events. This is your Fishing Club. Try to make it the best! 1. Fish Tournaments – I want to have two fishing tournaments this year. One in the summer and one with our crab feast in the fall. 2. Attendance Awards – I still want to award members who attend our monthly meetings. I want to give the awards out at our June and November meetings. 3. Yearlong Tournament – This did not go over well last year. Very few entries. How can we improve this event? 4. M.A.R.I. – Maryland Artificial Reef Initiative – I want to support this project more this year and need suggestions or ideas on how to do that. Some have suggested that we do a raffle for M.A.R.I. 5. Any ideas to improve your Fishing Club.
MSSA CONVENTION
The MSSA convention is being held at the Princess Royale Hotel in Ocean City on February 1-2-3. If you want to attend, get details in the “Tidelines” magazine or contact the MSSA office (410-255-5535). Our Club will be attending the business meeting on Saturday, February 2nd. This is a great inexpensive way to spend a weekend with your family. Try to attend.
GUEST SPEAKER
Mid Shore Electronics will be our speaker for January. Frank Daringer has been a good member and supporter of our Fishing Club for years. Mid Shore donates items for our flea market every year. They provide a place to store our reef balls. Frank and crew have given us priceless information on the electronics we use on our boats. If you need help or have questions on your electronic equipment, or your are looking for equipment for your boat, don’t’ miss this meeting.
See you at the meeting or on the water. Clint
