                          NEXT MEETING - THURSDAY, March 16th, 2006

                                 7:30 p.m. - AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY - NO VOICE - NO FISH!

March is here and fishing is finally getting started.  Some members have been doing well fresh-water fishing.  I hope to test the waters the week of our meeting and have something to report.  If you haven’t gotten your boat and fishing gear ready, you had better get your butt moving for fishing will be here soon.  I only hope fishing is better this year in our area.

ROCKFISH REGULATIONS

April 15 to May 15 - 1 fish per day - 33 inches - mainstream Chesapeake Bay from Brewerton channel to the Maryland/Virginia line.

May 16 to May 31 - 2 fish per day - 2-18 inches to 28 inches or 1-18 inch and 1 larger than 28 inches - mainstream Chesapeake Bay plus 5 miles into the Chester, Choptank and Patuxent Rivers.

June 1 to December 15 - 2 fish per day - same as above plus the entire Bay and tributaries are open

MSSA SPRING TOURNAMENT

The 23rd annual MSSA Spring Tournament is scheduled for May 5-6-7, 2006.  As I write this report, about 150 boats have already signed up.  If you sign up before March 15th, you save $25.00 for your boat entry. This is a big-fun tournament with a lot of money that can be won so many ways.  Get a crew together and sign up for this tournament.  You may be the big winner.

FLEA MARKET

On Saturday, February 25th, we held our Dorchester County MSSA Flea Market.  It was a huge success.  We signed up 40 members of which 12 were new members.  We had over 40 vendor tables selling fantastic deals on fishing, hunting and boating items.  I want to thank all the volunteers who helped to make our flea market a success. The big thanks goes to Chuck Prahl who got all the vendors together.  Kenny Barwick won the VHF radio raffle.

FISHING COMBO RAFFLE

We still have our fishing combo raffle on-going. You can win your choice of either a spinning, trolling or level wind fishing combo.  The winner gets his choice.  The fishing combo will be given away at our May 18th meeting.  Please try to buy or sell as many tickets as you can  for all monies taken in support your fishing Club’s activities.  Bring your sold tickets to the meeting or send a check made out to MSSA Dorchester to Jim Kubista, 100 Linthicum Drive, Cambridge, MD 21613.  We need your support.

MONTHLY MEETING SIGN UP

We still have the $100.00 we give away at our May and November meetings.  All you have to do is sign a ticket at the meeting which goes in a container and a winner will be drawn at our two meetings.  Also, if you bring in a new member, you get ten tickets in your name. We have had over 21 new members sign up in the last couple of months, so somebody has a lot of tickets coming to them.  Also, each new member gets a chance to win a free Ocean City fishing trip for six people on board Joe Riley’s “Muff Diver.”  A Dorchester person won the trip last year.

PARTNERS IN FISHING

The Dorchester County MSSA Chapter 11 is first and foremost a fishing club.  We have a partner in fishing program that welcomes our members to get with other members to enjoy and learn to fish our area.  If you have a boat or don’t have a boat and want to have someone to fish with or want to learn how to fish our area, either in the Bay or rivers or even off shore, come to our meetings and meet people who love to fish.  Contact me, Clint (410-376-3563) or go to our website (MSSADorchester.com) and contact our webmaster, Curt Brandt, and we can help you find fishing partners.

MSSADORCHESTER.COM

If you haven’t gone online to visit our website, do so, for you will be surprised with all the information that is available.  Our webmaster, Curt Brandt, is constantly adding new information.  If you know of a site that will help us with fishing and boating, contact Curt.  If you get our newsletter from our website, this is the last newsletter you will get by mail this year.  You will have to go online and read the newsletter on our website.  We have had a lot of new members sign up so far this year.  You will keep getting your newsletter by mail unless you can notify me that you can get your newsletter online.  This helps to cut down on postage costs.  Plus you can get all the information that is available on our website.  If anyone of our members can get this newsletter online, please contact me, Clint.

GUEST SPEAKER

Our scheduled speaker for this month is Kurt Freund of “Fishsticks Charters.”  Kurt is a light tackle and fly-fishing specialist out of Neavitt, Maryland.  Kurt also takes guided kayak fishing trips.  He fishes the Choptank River area.  If you enjoy light tackle, shoreline fishing and jigging, don’t miss this meeting.  Plus if you want to experience fishing out of a kayak and learn how to do it, be at our meeting.  Kurt also fishes out of a 23' Jones Brothers Cape Fisherman.

See you at the meeting or on the water.

            Clint
