NEXT MEETING – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2007

7:30 p.m. – AMERICAN LEGION POST 91

The MSSA is working to provide a unified voice to preserve and protect the rights, traditions and the future of recreational fishing.

NO UNITY – NO VOICE – NO FISH!

The last six to eight weeks, I have had some good and enjoyable fishing.  Live-lining, bottom-fishing and now jigging have improved, so fishing has been good and enjoyable.  Enjoyable because I have been fishing with some new members who want to learn how to fish this area.  Along with this activity, I meet new people who want to join our fishing club. Most days we are limiting out on Rockfish.  Bluefish are showing up in numbers and size. Spot fishing has been super.  Croaker and Perch fishing is good.  Along the way, we catch a few Flounder and Trout. Fishing has been good and enjoyable. Come to the meeting to find out about this good fishing.  I had about 10 or 12 phone calls after last month’s meeting saying they were sorry about missing the meeting.  They simply forgot. Members, it’s easy – we meet the third Thursday of each month.  Mark your calendar all year long on the third Thursday of each month except December. We don’t meet but we have our Christmas party.

If you have a child or grandchild who is interested in fishing, bring him or her to the meeting so that he or she can learn more about fishing. Don’t forget.  The third Thursday of each month.

OCTOBER 7TH DORCHESTER COUNTY MSSA FISHING TOURNAMENT

Sunday, October 7th is the date for our Chapter’s fishing tournament and crab feast.  Be at our September 20th meeting to sign up and have the rules read.  To enter it will be $10.00 per person and all money goes back to the winners who catch the largest Rockfish, Bluefish, Trout and White Perch. The following are the rules for the tournament.

  1. Fishing will start at 5:00 a.m. and final check in registration by 4:00 p.m. on October 7th at the American Legion.
  2. No check in registration of fish before 3:00 p.m.
  3. Fish will be measured from closed mouth to V of tail.
  4. In case of ties, earliest checked in fish wins.
  5. Rockfish, Bluefish, Trout and White Perch are the only fish to be entered.
  6. Entrants must sign up by October 6th. Try to sign up at our September 20th meeting.  Contact Chuck Prahl (410-228-0251) or Jesse Maffuid (410-228-1756) to sign up.
  7. $10.00 per person-only members of the MSSA are to fish this tournament. All people on the boat must be MSSA members.
  8. All money taken in will be divided and given equally to the winners of each category.

CRAB FEAST

Our crab feast will be held the same day, October 7th, at the American Legion Post 91.  The crab feast will start at 4:00 p.m., right after our fishing tournament.  A cover charge of $5.00 per member and $15.00 per non-member guest will be charged for this event.  Try to sign up at our September 20th meeting so Jim Kubista (410-228-4690) and Norm Bell (410-228-0913) can get a head count to make sure enough crabs are ordered.  If you can’t make the meeting, contact Jim or Norm.  Try to bring a covered dish if you can so we will be able to serve something besides crabs, corn, beer and sodas which also will be provided.  People have been great in supplying covered dishes in the past!  Here again, try to sign up for the tournament and crab feast at our September 20th meeting.

DORCHESTER COUNTY MEMBER WINS BOTH MSSA TUNA TOURNAMENTS

Dorchester County Chapter 11 member, San Fisher, and crew won both the 18th Annual Tuna-Ment and the 16th Annual  Mar-Va Offshore Tournament.  Sam and crew also won the catch and release part of the MSSA Spring Tournament.  Congratulations Sam Fisher and crew!  Sam should be a shoe-in for Captain of the year in the MSSA.  If he enters the Fall Tournament, he should take that title with no problem.

GUEST SPEAKER
